1069 Pan's People : Digging the Dancing Queen
First viewed : 4 January 1994
This was a half-hour documentary on Top of the Pops's famous dance troupe. It concentrated on the classic line up - Ruth, Louise, Dee Dee, Babs and Cherry- all of whom contributed along with choreographer Flick Colby. All of them still looked pretty good in their forties. Most of the "fringe" members, including stalwart Sue Mehenick who featured in both the subsequent troupes, were not even mentioned. John Peel, Tony Blackburn and Jimmy Savile also contributed to the programme.
The programme was notable for the inclusion of footage from their 1974 TV special which I never saw. It featured Louise ( my favourite ) and Dee Dee doing a routine on cushions in very skimpy outfits.
It's a sobering thought that half the participants, Flick, Ruth and Louise, have since passed away.
