I think I only caught the last episode of this British- Australian three-part adaptation of Ben Elton's novel of ecological disaster.
The byzantine plot concerned a group of billionaires looking to save themselves from impending environmental doom by going into space and then wiping out the rest of humanity. Elton himself played the central character, CD, an English loser who gets involved with a bunch of eco-activists led by Zimmerman ( Derrick O Connor ) and the lovely Rachel ( Jacqueline McKenzie ). Colin Friels played Sly Morgan, the millionaire playboy that Rachel manages to convert to their cause. Colette Mann from Prisoner Cell Block H, her bust now at gargantuan proportions, played an unsympathetic character.
The series changed the ending from the novel with a pretty grim fate for two of the good guys.
Although the novel was a bestseller, the series didn't catch fire and has never been repeated.
