313 Great Big Groovy Horse

First  viewed :  21  December  1977

I'd  never  have  recalled  the  title  but  I  did  see  this  hour-long  musical  version  of  the  Trojan  Horse  saga. The  only  bit  I  can  actually  remember  clearly  comes  after the  Greeks  have  emerged  and  Menelaus  ( played  by  Manfred  Mann's  Paul  Jones  though  I  wouldn't  have  recognised  him  then  )  accosts  Paris  and  begins  a  song  with   the  line   "Paris , you've  got  a  hell  of  a  lot  to  answer  for  ".

The  music  was  arranged, although  not  all  written  by ,  Play  Away 's  Jonathan  Cohen   and  the  cast  featured  Patricia  Hodge  ( presumably  Helen ) , Julie  Covington  ( presumably  Cassandra ) Sinitta's  mum  Miquel  Brown  and  Bill  Maynard's  son  ( Maynard  Williams , a  dismal  Eurovision  failure  as  lead  singer  of  Ryder  in  the  eighties ).

A  commenter  on  TV  Cream  mentioned  that  the  costumes  were  a  bit  risque  but  unfortunately  I  can't  find  any  stills  to  verify  this.
